Kayla Nicole Murphy was charged following an incident early on Thursday morning in Triangle involving a 2-year-old child who was rescued by a neighbor, officials say.
Officers responded to the Melrose Apartments in the 18000 block of Purvis Drive in Triangle, where they were called in to investigate reports of a found child who was found in the roadway outside.
While investigating the incident, police say that Murphy made contact with the officers to report that the kid - who was uninjured - missing.
The Triangle resident was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was released on a court summons and her court date is pending. The child was released into the custody of "known parties."
